Prewriting Prewriting is the first stage of the writing process, some taks that this process involves are choosing a topic and identifying a purpose and an audience. Your guidance gives struggling writers the direction they need to begin generating ideas. Often the hardest part of developing a thesis and writing an effective paper is simply getting started. To help yourself formulate and organize ideas, a writer should try pre-writing. Pre-writing is a group of various methods that can help a writer get ideas down on a paper as they think of them, as well as helping the writer approach topics from different perspectives.                                       Brainstorming Brainstorming Brainstorming provides a nearly guaranteed solution to writer's block. It's actually a very easy process. 1) Begin with a blank piece of paper or blank computer screen. 2) Write the paper's topic, such as "The Ethics of Cigarette Advertising," at the top 3) Write down everything about the topic; omit nothing, no matter how bizarre, and don't stop until completely out of ideas. Don't worry about grammar or editing during this initial phase.
